Dr. Troxler's SLOW STARCH DIET(TM), is the best approach to a lifestyle of healthy eating and exercising available. It is based on the principles of the Low Glycemic Index, which keeps your blood sugar from spiking, thereby reducing food cravings, hunger, and adverse bodily reactions.
Dr. Troxler has developed a 3-column Low Glycemic food item approach/system, where you may eat foods from column A, yet avoid eating the foods listed in column C. Once a person becomes familiar with the different food items in the 3 columns, it becomes easier to make healthy choices. Eating from column A and gentle exercise are the basis of the Slow Starch Diet(TM).
Slow Starch DietTM & Beyond
I have worked with Dr. Troxler and taught his classes. He has shared with me, and I discovered the same thing, that some people, no matter how hard they try, can not stick to column A, or still have difficulty eliminating excess weight. Dr. Troxler has been resarching the causes of this and found some of the barriers to continued success (managing stress, depression, addiction, emotions, and habits).
Together we are working on finding a solution to overcoming these difficulties and helping people to get beyond the stuck point. We've decided to create a follow-on class, to the Slow Starch Diet(TM) classes taught by Dr. Troxler, and call it "the MISSING LINK" the next step in weight loss, following the Slow Starch Diet(TM) & Beyond.
Potential Problems and Possible Solutions
Problems Seen:
Stress causes weight gain around the mid-section as well as emotional eating. Bodies hold on to fat and immune systems are compromised.
Depression reduces the amount of Serotonin in your brain, thereby stopping your brain's ability to signal/detect correct hunger messages.
Food addiction can keep us at the table, even if we are not hungry. Certain triggers stimulate our appetite with apparent lack of control.
Emotional eating is tied to learned behavior and relates to all three issues listed above. Food has been used as a reward, for nurturing, to make us feel good.
Habits are learned and ingrained over time. Advertisers know that and target these behaviors in many different ways.
Solutions:
Experience a computerized biofeedback system that shows you how your thoughts and emotions affect your body and then learn 3 steps to eliminate unwanted emotions.
Be taught to overcome certain symptoms of depression with counseling, exercise motivation, alpha-stim® cranial electro stimulation, and other endorphin producing techniques.
Discover how an accupressure technique may help you to let go of your connection to food (and other issues) in just 20 minutes a day.
Find out how to be happy and joyful without indulging. Get pleasure from eating out of column A and appreciate the flavor of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Study how to recognize and eliminate the habits and triggers. Look at the research and create new healthier habits in 30 days.
Techniques and Class Format
Class participants will be in charge of what they would like to do and what they are willing to experience.
Education will be based on research findings, traditional counseling approaches, complimentary therapies, and group exploration. We will educate using proven methods and published knowledge. Some of the techniques will be based on biofeedback, accupuncture related tapping, guided imagery, and plain ole counseling.
The classes will meet weekly for 60-90 minutes (depending on class size) with pre-arranged agendas. Participants are asked to be non-judgmental, open to new experiences, and motivated to embrace change.
